THE CHAKRA SYSTEM:
In our bodies, there are hundreds of locations which contain focused, concentrated energy. These centers, commonly called "chakras" (Sanskrit for wheels), are spinning vortices of energy. They act as doorways that open the energy portals that connect our etheric bodies: the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of our being. It is through these centers that we are able to receive, transmit and process vital life force.
Among the hundreds of energy centers we have, there are seven major chakras we will deal with in balancing our energies. Each chakra corresponds to and governs certain aspects of our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual nature. Balancing the energy flow into our chakras, when dealing with certain physical debilitations, let's say, we are able to integrate the healing from the physical to the spiritual realms of our being. Total (holistic) healing occurs. The root cause of the physical debilitation is dealt with and a possible mental, emotional or spiritual imbalance is prevented.
In the natural healing arts such as crystal healing, pranic healing, acupuncture, acupressure and shiatsu, to name but a few, great importance is placed in balancing the energy flow of these centers. In using crystals, any excess energy is drawn out and any lack is replenished. Any constriction manifested in the centers, which may sometimes translate into physical pain or dis-ease (when the body is not at ease, as in sickness), is an indication that a blockage is present. Sometimes, diagnosis through the chakra centers may lead to the early discovery of a serious illness. In such cases, treatment of the energy centers through the natural healing arts, coupled with meditation, exercise, a prudent diet and a healthy outlook in life can actually arrest any serious illness (such as cancer) or even cure it.
Each chakra resonates with a certain color, as well as sound. However, color will be our main concern at this time. The chakras correspond to specific aspects of our consciousness and to the various glands of the endocrine system. Most often, the crystals we use resonate well with the energy centers of the same color. Sometimes, however, certain crystals with specific crystalline healing values also work well with other energy centers of different colors. For example, the clear quartz works well with all chakras, and amplifies the healing energies of the other crystals applied to the different energy centers.
In understanding how the chakra govern our consciousness, we understand ourselves better. The crystals can act as tools to open the doorways to other perspectives of self-discovery. Our best guide is intuition. And we can't really go wrong...we can only do better.
FIRST CHAKRA, or base or root chakra, is located at the base of the spine or coccyx. Primary color: RED, secondary color: BLACK. This externalizes as the adrenal gland and governs the kidneys, the spinal column, legs, colon, bones, and circulation of the lower extremities. This governs understanding of the physical dimension, matters relating to success, the mastery of the physical body, grounding, stability, security, stillness, health, courage, and patience. This is the center wherein we experience :fight or flight" and has much to do with our survival instincts. This center gives vitality to the physical body and is where our Life Force stems from. Negative symptoms of this chakra are suicidal tendencies, self-centeredness, insecurity, violence, greed, anger, constipation, tension or pain in the spine, circulatory problems in the legs, and general weakness of the body. RECOMMENDED CRYSTALS: onyx, garnet, ruby, black tourmaline, obsidian, and smoky quartz.
SECOND CHAKRA, or navel chakra is located in the lower abdomen or navel area. Color: ORANGE. This externalizes as the ovaries in women and testes in men and governs the functions of the prostate, genitals, spleen, womb, and bladder. This is the chakra of creativity and governs our attitudes towards relationships, sex, procreation, assimilation of food, physical force and vitality, and sexuality. In this center, we experience giving and receiving, emotions, desire, pleasure, sexual and passionate love, change, movement, assimilation of new ideas, health, family life, tolerance, creativity, and the ability to work harmoniously with others. Negative symptoms are over indulgence in food or sex, sexual difficulties, confusion, jealousy, envy, impotence, uterine and bladder problems, and the desire to possess people or material things in great excess of what is needed or has use for. RECOMMENDED CRYSTALS: orange agate, or carnelian, coral, citrine, gold topaz and amber.
THIRD CHAKRA, or solar plexus chakra is located above the navel and below the chest. Color: YELLOW. This externalizes as the pancreas and governs the functions of the stomach, digestive system, liver, spleen, gall bladder, muscles, and aspects of the nervous system. This is the clearing house for emotional sensitivities and is the center of power. Through this center, we experience personal drive, will, power, authority, energy, mastery of desire, self-control, radiance, warmth, transformation, humor, laughter, and immortality. Negative symptoms of this center manifest as taking in more than one can assimilate and utilize, too much emphasis on recognition and or power, anger, fear, hate, and digestive problems. RECOMMENDED CRYSTALS: citrine, tiger's eye, gold topaz, gold and amber.
FOURTH CHAKRA, or heart chakra is located at the center of the chest. Primary color: GREEN and secondary color: PINK. This externalizes as the thymus gland and governs the functions of the heart, blood, immune system, respiratory system and influences the functions of the endocrine system, arms and hands. This is the center through which we feel love and wherein we anchor our Life Force with the Higher Self. In the center, we feel Divine and unconditional love, compassion, forgiveness, understanding, balance, openness with life, peace, harmony, and contentment. Negative symptoms are repression of love, emotional instability, heart problems, respiratory problems, low immunity to illness, addictions to food, drug, cigarettes and alcohol, and circulation problems. RECOMMEDED CRYSTALS: malachite, emerald, rose quartz, jade, aventurine, ruby, green and pink tourmaline, hematite, rhodonite, and rhodocrosite.
FIFTH CHAKRA, or throat chakra is located at the center of the throat area. Color: BLUE. This externalizes as the thyroid gland and governs the mouth, throat, hypothalamus, parathyroid, vocal chords, and bronchial apparatus. This is the center through which we can express the power of the spoken word and our sense of judgment. This governs creative expression in speech, writing and the arts. This is also the center of loyalty, integration, peace, truth, knowledge, wisdom, honesty, reliability, gentleness and kindness. Negative symptoms are communication or speech problems, depression, ignorance, lack of discernment, knowledge used unwisely and thyroid and throat problems. RECOMMENDED CRYSTALS: turquoise, sodalite, aquamarine, blue topaz, lapis lazuli, amazonite and blue sapphire.
SIXTH CHAKRA, or the brow or third eye chakra is located between the eyebrows. Color: INDIGO (royal blue). THis externalizes as the pituitary gland and governs the lower brain, nervous system, the ears, nose, and left eye, which is the eye of personality. This is the center wherein we experience intuition, soul realization, insight, clairvoyance, concentration, peace of mind, wisdom, devotion and service to humanity. Negative symptoms are fear, cynicism, tension, overly detached attitude from the world. RECOMMENDED CRYSTALS: lapis lazuli, sodalite, quartz and blue sapphire.
SEVENTH CHAKRA, or crown chakra is located at the top of the head. Color: VIOLET or the combination of all colors: WHITE. This externalizes as the pineal gland and governs the upper brain and the right eye. Through this chakra we may ultimately reach the integration of God, unification with our Higher Self, inspiration, Divine wisdom and understanding, idealism, selfless service, perception beyond space and time and continuity of consciousness. Negative symptoms are lack of inspiration, confusion, senility, depression, alienation, hesitation to serve, tension, stress, insomnia and migraine headaches. RECOMMENDED CRYSTALS: amethyst, diamond, clear quartz and flourite.
I wear different crystals everyday....to fit my emotional and physical needs or to boost my energy and enthusiasm for the work I do. Whether casual, corporate or informal in attire, I wear crystals to put together my outfit. It's really amazing how good they make me feel. I never cease to wonder.
A lot of my friends sometimes tell me that the crystals probably make me glow. I don't know....it could be a number of things. But I think they're right.
